Hello all,
I'm going MAD!
I have installed a new CDRW-DVD-ROM drive into my notebook. At first everything was ok, then 10 mins into watching a dvd the screen locked up. I managed to get back to desktop and shut the DVD software down. I restarted, only to find that my notebook does not see the new CD drive in my computer or divice manager.
The new drive was a replacement for what I thought was a faulty drive which was doing the same as this new one.
Could it be the pin connectors on the back of the drive? I slipped on the connector from the old drive.
How can I make windows see the drive?

Any help is much appreciated.
Going Mad!
Carla

As a follow up:

I now know that it has something to do with "the safely Remove hardware" thingy.

I have to take the drive out and the push the drive back in to my notebook and the little green arrow pops up in the taskbar and the Drive is reconnised. Two minutes into playing music or DVD film and the drive locks up.
I aint got a clue what to do nest!
Help!!!!!
Thanks
Carla

Many people would have already used this laptop as a one-time frisbee by now so I must say I admire you're persistence. If you haven't already done so try upgrading the BIOS.

Also, if you haven't recently formatted and reloaded the OS check in eventviewer to see if any conflicts are being logged.

As I believe a previous post already added you may be finding out the hard way why this laptop was given away.
