Windows does not recognize the CD drive in my PC, although everything else seems to work fine. Here's what happened:
Hour one: Spilled about a half cup of water on my laptop, shut it down & removed from power, opened it up and drained it, took all the back panels off and the battery off, turned upside down over a towel and put a cool fan on it.
Left it like that for aobut 24 hours.
Put it back together, but didn't use for another 24 hours.
Turned it on and everything seemed to boot up just fine, except I had to reset the clock (of course, since the battery had been out).
The Cd drive seems to work fine. It spins when I insert any disc and all lights come on. XP and other programs (Roxio, iTunes) just won't see it at all. Tried a CD drive utility repair, but no dice. BIOS seems fine; no NOIDE messages in regedit.
Next is taking it apart and checking connections, but is there anything else I can do?
Ideas? Thanks.

It is being assigned a drive letter?

Sounds like one of the connectors for the CD drive is either loose or damaged.

'Excellent' job in getting the laptop working as well as it is! I'm impressed!
Don't know if it will help, but check in the bios setup routine to see if the bios is seeing it.
I guess you could try rinsing it with distilled water. If you do that I would suggest letting it dry for a couple of days opened up and with a fan blowing over it.
