Hi, Recently I fixed a malware problem on my computer by going to this forum and doing the following:
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/vie...

Everything worked out fine but later I noticed that when I went to 'my computer', the CD drive was not recognized.

An error icon is next to the hardware description when I go to 'properties' from 'My Computer'

At first, I thought it was an issue with the cd drive itself, but I went out and bought a brand new cd drive and installed it and the same issue came up.

I tried disabling the drive from the Device Manager, then restarted the computer and Enabled it again..and nothing happened. Also,I have tried updating the driver, which does nothing.
I'm not really sure what the issue is and how to fix it. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I also tried this step
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...

but no "Volume{GUID}" folder is listed,so I couldn't get past step 6.

Also,I have went to

and recieved this message when clicking on an error in computer management

My reccomendation is never run a program that claims to eliminate or zap malware. Critical system files may end up being deleted or corruped in the process. A better approach would be taking a proactive approach to internet and program safety. You could start by using the Firefox browser. Never open attachement within an email that you do not know or expect. Do not download software or files from shady websites, and never run or install unknown active-X components.

try and install the latest service pack for XP. That should drop the missing or corrupt driver back in place

I've installed the latest service pack and nothing changed with the driver. I'm really not sure what the issue is, Is it possible that it's in the registry?
Thanks for your advice.

Okay,I went through Method 1 and did up to step 6. But No Low Filters were found in that part of the registry.

The Cd drive is recognized now when I go to 'My Computer' there is the icon to go to it.. but when I insterted a blank cd I get an
"E:\ is not accesible
incorrect funtion"
error.

I'm going to try method 2 to see if it helps any... now at least I know I'm getting somewhere though, Since the icons are available for the drive.

Thank you.
