I have a cd drive in my computer. It is not being detected by my computer. when i go to "my computer" it is not there, nor is it in device manager. It opens, so there is no problem with the power.
my computer is a dell inspiron 1200,
if you need anymore information i can surely post it (as long as you tell me how to post it, this is my first time on this website)
once in a while, it will show up at random. but will no longer be detected if i shut my computer down.

Was this CD drive working before?
You need to watch the POST screens at startup to see if the drive is seen by the BIOS there. If not then Windows will not be able to see it either.
Some items to troubleshoot if the drive isn't showing in the POST screens. Loose data cable, disabled drive controller in BIOS, or drive may be defective.

It used to work. but hasn't worked for some time. I'm still learning about this but "bios" is when you press F2 (or at least thats what it is on my computer) when your computer is starting up?
