Comment: My CD drive wont work. Yesterday I tried to play a CD in it, and nothing came up like it usually does. So I went into My Computer to click the icon and the icon wasnt even there. I went into Device Manager, and the error is: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device. I went through troubleshoot, did everything it asked such as installing/reinstalling, BOIS and everything else but it is still not working. If you could help I would really appreciate it. Its not just CDs also, its all disks.

Reply: Ok, you uninstalled the current driver from the device manager screen and then rebooted and it still did not load properly. There are a few things that you may try. 1) Unplug and replug the flat cable to your drive to see if that helps. 2) Replace that same cable (if 40 wire, replace with 80 wire) 3) Replace the drive IN THE MATTERS OF STYLE, swim with the current; in matters of principle, STAND LIKE A ROCK

Reply: Can you see the drive in BIOS? if so, load windows, remove / delete it in device manager and restart. If not, check the flat ribbon cable, and change the power plug for another one (and we've all got spares!). If that doesn't work, try to auto-detect it in the main BIOS screen. Post back. cursum perficio

Reply: Your problem may well be posted above but also consider that the registry under certain conditions will hide the CD rom drives. Here is one article that may solve your problem. Search the Microsoft knowledge base for more on this problem.
