cd can't to cd

hey, is there any reason why I can't make a data backup cd by writing a cd directly to cd? i have to copy the cd first to my harddrive then copy it to the blank CD

You need CloneCD which will make an exact copy of your CD's, if legal. I think they have a trial version.
