hi can i use a regular cd burner on my laptop without the xplosure box.. thanks for ur help
Actually there is a way. There is a USB cable available that interfaces into an IDE drive, a Sata drive or a floppy drive. No enclosure box needed. Search for R-Driver.
EDIT: There is an R-Driver ll and an R-Driver lll available. Cost is less than $50US

An enclosure is cheaper than that.

I have USB-IDE cable like this that I use for field work but to protect against damaging the exposed drive circuit board you will be better off with the enclosure. The enclosure box is useful to disspiate heat too.

I have used this box for a while, It is $20us and free shipping from these guys. Used this store for many years.
The box is convertable and can be used for HDD or dvd/cd rom/burners in the IDE configuration (not SATA). Has its own power source and USB 2.0 connection.
