My Cd burner in XP is not recongnised, Windows knows it is there and what it is but will not copy anything to it (neither will NERO, media player will not copy songs either). Nero just flat refuses to believe that I have a burner.

I cant remember the link off hand but its on microsofts site. Do a search in there knowledge base for "cdrw not recognized" or something similiar. You will find a tweak u have to do through the registry which only takes a second but its been about 5 months so cant remember but go to microsofts site. My burner (cyberdrive 058D) had the same problem when i installed it. Never came up as a recorder and when u would go into my computer the drive would be there but not as a recorder(right click the drive and there was no recorder tab). But the microsoft registry guide does work. The service pack will be out soon, hopefully this problem will be eliminated. good luck

Thanks for your help chad, have been to Microsofts site and been unable to rectify the problem, the burner was working and then simply was not working, the recording tab is there and it is fully recongnised as a writer but alas it will not write. (the drive has been checked on another machine and confirmed to be working A-OK) Anyone who can help would be a life saver.

I had this very same problem.. The problem is you have deleted a program or not loaded a program that is associated with the CD rom. Figure out what that program is and loaded back on.. For me it was INCD and I use Nero.. Once I put INCD back in startup, my drive started working again..

Thanks Daryl, that seems to make sense. I will do some investigation into what I may have deleted. Much Appreciated.

Have u tried just reloading the cdrw in the device manager? If not try it. Another idea would be remove anything associated with the cdrw drive then reboot>reload software>reload cdrw>then reboot. Good luck
