Hi, I have been having this problom with my CD drive. It used to work fine, but lately I have not been able to burn CDs with it. I put a blank CD-R in, it says its a blank CD, but when I write data to the CD, not only is the CD empty, but it is also corrupted and does not even appear in My Computer; it just says CD/DVD ROM Drive (D:). I can still load CD-ROMs and audio CDs. The CD drive is a TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2212. The portion of the lens for playing DVDs burned out a year ago, so I cant play DVDs in it.

Try the easiest way first. Have you recently installed a program or reinstalled Windows XP? If so, please open My Computer, right click your CD Burner, Click Properties, Recording Tab and see if the line Enable CD recording on this drive is checked. Peter

When I tried to play a game after the CD burning failed, the disk came up in My Computer, but when I ran the game, the disk stopped loading and told me to reinsert the CD and run the program again, even though the CD shows up and I can see the folders on the CD. It worked fine when I restarted the computer.
