cd & dvd rom problem

i run xp. i have a toshiba dvd and tdk cdrw which have always worked fine. now when i click on the icon for either drive i get a message: incorrect fuction. i can still burn to the cdrw. the device manager says there is no problem. if i click on properties everything looks all right. any ideas?

sounds like the cd burning software issue what cd burning softwares have you tried and installed uninstalled repeatedly?

Had the same problem with earlier versions of Nero and InCD. If you are using Nero make sure it is version 5.5.6.4 or later and InCD must be 3.2.3.

I had two drives that were working fine until I installed xp, then they both died, almost at the same time. It was weird, I had to send both drives back to the manufact to be fixed. I think MS is messin with us, I'm all for conspiracy theory.... Needless to say I'm up and running 2000 and lovin it...

i use easy cd creator 5.0. always have. i think somehow my icons no longer point to the cd & dvd rom. if i go to computer managment then disk management, i can get them to work from there but not from the icons. if i start to change the drive letter then cancel the change they also will work for awhile.

I have problems with my DVD and CD-RW Drives too. They both "worked" for two months with XP. But hten suddenly they are not existing anymore both drives from Samsung ( DVD = SD 612S and CD-RW = SW 408B) So what the hell is going on ???????

thanks for the suggestions. somehow the easy cd creator 5.0 update for xp must of got un-installed or corrupted. i re-installed it and things seem to be back to normal
