Ive all of a sudden started to experience this problem with ccapp.exe closing unexpectedly. Almost some other software is forcing its closure.
Unintsalling norton 2005 on WinXP SP2, then clearing all the excess folders as Symantec suggests, does not fix the problem upon reinstall. Nor does trying this with their remove tool.CCAPP.exe is listed in the startup programs, and does try to start, then quits.
I have ran every AV and anti-spyware i could think of. MS Antispyware, Spybot, Adaware, Hijackthis and also done scans with Norton AV, The cleaner, Trend Micro's online scan and Symantec's online scan.
It did apparently find some Java VM exploit in the Sun Java folder, though I am unsure about the accuracy of this.
I first noticed CCAPP crashing while I was using outlook 2003, then eventually it wouldnt run at all.
A fresh install of norton without updates does not allow it to run, nor does an updated version.
I have even installed their beta test of the new antispyware Internet security and experience the same problem with ccapp.
If i run two copies of CCAPP in quick succession, one of them will remain open, allowing for norton to stay partially active. Though email scanning, virus defs and subscription show an error.Symantec's articles say to uninstall and reinstall. Thats as helpful as thier various articles get.
I dont have a software firewall, i use a linux box. I also have no other symantec software on my PC.
Only today i have notived my web browswer and outlook may also quit unexpectedly upon starting them. Though this is rare.

Ccapp.exe is not a virus. Ccapp.exe is a process belonging to Norton AntiVirus 2003. It is responsible for the auto-protect and email checking facilities, both of which will not function correctly if this service is stopped.
It is a SERVICE therefore you need to stop the service from loading everytime you start your computer.
There are a couple of ways to do this. The easiest way is to simply prevent it from runing using the MSCONFIG utility. The second way is to go into your administrative features under the SERVICES utility and stop & remove it.

from your post, i am under the assumption that you would like norton to work that is why you continuely uninstall and reinstall, what you may want to do is uninstall norton and then run RNAV you can get it from symantec...then try reinstalling norton and see what happens...also from my understanding i beleive CCAP is an executable in the startup tab of msconfig and registry, so uninstalling the norton should take care of that "service"...disabling any service of norton will not make it function properly, and killing the CCAP from startup will also cause it not to load period...can you post your proccess's that are running on the machine after trying the uninstall, RNAV and then reinstall??
