When I try to shut xp down the "ending program" shows "saving ccAPP" Then just goes back to the shut down window. (the one after you hit start- shut down). After that if I try to open ANY program it says "system is shutting down" and will not let me do anything other then reboot by punching the power button. ARRGGGgg!!!!

ccAPP.exe can either be part of Norton Anti-Virus or it can be spyware.
Here's what Symantec has to say about it - http://search.symantec.com/custom/update/query.html?filter=all&nh=10&hitsceil=100&st=1&context=gbh&qt=ccApp
Here's what a third party company has t osay about it - http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/ccapp/

From what I read on the Net, CcAPP (Common Client APP) reside in memory at all times in order to provide automatic virus protection and e-mail scanning. While it's a pain to remove it there is a way HERE. Once you successfully got rid of it, remember to duck whenever you see Symantec toys on display in the store near you :-)

I agree with Saberteeth! NORTON SUX!
Norton is a real resource hog. Uninstall it and use the free version of avg antivirus available at www.grisoft.com while you are at it get the free version of zonealarm for a firewall. Also there is a very good firewall called sygate which you can get for free.best of luck Frank :

Did you know that Symantec have bought out Sygate?
Unity is strength.

So is,,
I've always depended on Veritas for their great backup utilities. Now this....
It's all falls within this crazy business cycle "eat or be eaten."

"eat or be eaten."......however if Symantec is anywhere on the menu expect some upset stomach.
Perhaps Symantec should buy Apple and Linux.
Leadtek sucks BIG TIME

I agree with the consensus, NIS sucks. But I do have reservations about grissoft as I had a bad experience with it when running Win98SE (as if that makes any difference) and free grissoft all but locked me out of my os. Maybe a good anti-virus but its help prompts (at least as I read them) weren't/aren't made very clear when it came to actions to take against reported finds.
I'm still looking for an anti-virus prog that safely runs and does so in the background.
Regards and hap-e-trails, Steve Hopper
