Hi All...
Here at work I'm wondering if there is some way (or program) that i can use to catalogue the contents for a directory (and it's subdirectories) to a text file?? My reason is we have literally hundreds of pdf files organised into numerous directories and navigating them isn't too easy for people new to the system. To have a text (or similar) file showing the contents of each directory would be great....and handy also to pass around to the managers to show where we are up to.
Cheers to anyone that can help

What you may need is a PRINT DIRECTORY program.

I installed this at one time, but never used it:
HOW TO: Add a "Print Directory" Feature for Folders in Windows XP

Then if you tried that, you will need this fix:
Search Companion Starts If You Double-Click a Folder(or a drive)

Or do a search of the web at Google or Yahoo.

Nevermind my first question :) Download this bacth file. Run it and drag the folder you want to list into the window. It will create the list for you.

ListIt.bat

I can also change it so it makes one continous list if you would like.
Hope this helps,
Sandman

Thanks Chuck 2....that works for one of our pcs. I wish you could preview the page to be printed out though. It works though which is a good start.

Sandman...Yes I do use the command prompt a little. I know there's a print directory type command there also (i think anyway) however really just need directory names and file names withought any other details listed. Basically what I'm hoping o find is some sort of tree which will be fairly easy to read for the less computer literate amongst us. Cheers guys

I have changed it so it list the files like this

D:\Media\Images\Golden Heart.jpg
D:\Media\Images\mem.jpg
D:\Media\Images\New JPEG Image (2).jpg
D:\Media\Images\New JPEG Image.jpg
D:\Media\Images\process.jpg
D:\Media\Images\ritual.bmp

If this works I have uploaded the new version.

Hope this helps,
Sandman

Fantastic.....that works well. The only problem i was faced with the method by Chuck was that we have a couple of laptops that are often out on location and without a printer. This will work very well....thanks very much for your help!!!

Glad I could help you out.

You may want to download ListIt.bat one last time, I had to make a couple of changes. Sorry for the extra hassle.
