Hi

i have a Camera Card Reader built into the front of my Computer

But it has stopped working, it used to show all 4 drives in the 'My Computer' window, but now they are all missing. And a light used to light up beside the card slot when u pushed a memory card in but now it doesnt.

basicly its like it doesnt exist..

i had some work done a few weeks ago but it was only on the hard drive and the Ram .. n i dont think it was that that did it..

could it be a soft ware problem.. or maybe when changing the hard drive hes knocked something out or somethin??

i dnno.. n i aint got much of a chance to try things lately..

can someone give me a couple of things to try..

thanks for ur help

Have you rebooted the computer from a cold start (meaning turn it off wait few minutes then restart)? Windows XP should re-discover card reader.

Or, unplugged it and plugged it back in?

Jennifer SUMN, how would you unplug it and plug it back in when it is built into the front of the tower?

I'm assuming it has a cable connecting it to the MOBO....

As Jennifer stated, there should be a cable connected to the MBoard.

Before going inside the case go to Device Manger in Control Panel. Look for listings with yellow exclamation points next to them. If found, remove that hardware listing and reboot. Be sure when performing these operations that ALL devices connected to USB ports are unplugged. Your mouse may be OK.

Two things to be aware of. First shut off the PSU on back of case or pull the plug from wall. Second, the wiring may be individual wires connected to a header. Take care to draw a diagram BEFORE disconnecting those wires so you can reconnect them later.

After disconnecting the wires boot the computer for one cycle. Shutdown as before and reconnect the wires.

You may need your WinXP or MBoard CD.

try deleting all the usb drives in the device manager, reboot and XP will re-install them...see if that helps.
Also, make sure you don't have any other USB devices plugged in. You may have a USB device conflicting with the reader.

I really don't see the need to physically fool with the connections, because the reader used to work, and hard connections, unless they are physically moved around shouldn't dislodge or whatever.

Try reloading the USB drivers and see if that works.
