Can't write to CD-Rs

Ok i have a HP CD-Writer 9100i series cd-rw drive its 8x4x32 but that doesnt matter. I can write to CD-RWs in XP fine but whenever I try to wrtie to CD-Rs in either EZCD platinum 5.02 or just using XP it spits out my CD-R and syas there were errors (not telling me what they were) even tho no data has been written to the CD, I have tried using different disks but nothing....ideas?
