can't view workgroup computers

I recently tried to connect my two XP computers together at home with the conneciton wizzard. It didn't work. When I click "view workgroup computers" all I get is an hourglass. Sometimes I get a message telling me that I don't have permission to view this stuff. It's my computer damn it! What's wrong?
