Over the last couple of years I've taken many pictures with my Toshiba PDR-M65 digital camera and then subsequently transferred those images to the computer and burned them to CD's. I've noticed that some of the pictues on the disks won't open so that I can view them. This hasn't always been the case. After saving them to disk, I always make sure that they are there by viewing them before deleting them from the memory card. I can't get any program to open them--paint, photoshop, picture and fax viewer--none will work. Paint says, "This is not a valid bitmap file, or it's format is not supported. The pics are all in .jpg format and should be able to be opened with most anything. This sometimes will occur only with selected pictures within a folder and sometimes it's the entire folder. The picture is still there, it just can't be viewed. I've cleaned the disks and they are in great shape--always stored in jewel case, no scratches, etc. I've tried opening them on different computers--still no luck. Any thoughts on how to view these photos or any idea what the problem is? Thanks.
jrny, looks like ur pics/images r not associated with a file. goto: MyComputer>Folder Options>File Types and see what ur JPGs,GIFs,BMPs Open with. JPEGs and GIFs should open with "Windows Picture & Fax Viewer" BMPs with Paint or Photoshop. If not click Change and choose recommended or other program.
I Will Not Fail !!!

Thanks for the responses. File type associations are all correct. I tried using Irfanview and I get a dialog box that says, "Can't read file header! Unknown file format!" All my pictures from the digital camera are in .jpg format and are shown as such. Any more ideas? Thanks.

Discovered something else that might be of use to someone trying to help me with this problem. Some of the folders with pictures in them also have a small file called "Thumbs" which is a Data Base File. I can only assume that this has something to do with showing the thumbnail of the picture. Like I said, some of the folders contain this file, some don't. However, there seems to be no corrilation between having or not having this file and being able to view the pictures---some of the folders in which I can view all of the pictures don't contain the Thumbs file and others in which I can only view selected images the file can either be present or not. This has got me stumped. Any other suggestions?
