I'm on Windows XP sp2. I consider myself to be somewhat quite computer savy, but this one has me stumped. When I go to uninstall a game with the 'add/remove programs' in control panel, I get this message, ''The feature you are trying to use is on a cd-rom or another removable disk that is not available''. I dont have the disk for that game and cannot find the uninstaller for it anywhere online. I've gone through and manually deleted all files and registries associated with it. I've scanned for virus', spyware, malware, adware, etc., nothing comes up. Anyone got any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated.

Virus and Spyware scans work better in Windows Safe-Mode.

Since you have manually deleted files, I presume
that you want to remove it only in Add/Remove ?Maybe this helps-
Removing Invalid Entries in the Add/Remove Programs Tool

Maybe the uninstall entries are pointing to a drive letter that at the time of the original install was a hard drive but since then you changed your system around so that that same drive letter is now a removable device like a CD/DVD drive.
Just a guess.

If there is a program you want to un-install and does not show up in add remove. Here are a couple of options. Although the second requires going into the registry and may not be for the in-experienced.
Before using either of these 2 alternative methods for uninstalling a program. Be sure to check (first) your Start-->Programs list for the program and see if the program has an "uninstall" listed. Always Uninstall from the programs uninstall first. If it doesnt have one listed. Check Add/Remove to see if the program can be uninstalled from there. If the program or the uninstaller cannot be found or run from either of the above 2 locations. Proceed to using one of the alternate methods below.
1. Using Installer Folder
Go to Installer folder. (Windows Start --> Run --> type: Installer. This is the folder where the installer stores information about the programs you've installed.
Included are a Comments and Author column in this folder.. (right click each icon/file and choose Properties, then the Comments (tab)until you find the file contains the program you wish to uninstall. The program name, ect... is generally listed in the Comments section.
After locating the file. Exit properties and right click the file/icon again that contains the program you wish to uninstall. Choose uninstall from the menu.
2. Using Registry Key
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion)
Go to registry and open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion key.
Under this section, all the installed software information will be there..
For unistalling a program, go to that section under which "installstring" or "installpath" key will be there.. Some even list an "Uninstall" string. It will point to the folder where installer/uninstaller for that software is located.. You can uninstall using that.

Try this.
