I recently installed Yahoo messenger, since another friend of mine uses. it It crashed randomly and I got Internet Explorer script errors popping up about 30 times each time I tried to message someone (not exaggerating)
So, when trying to uninstall it, I get this message:
Can't run 16-bit Windows program
Cannot find file C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\Messenger\UNWISE.exe (or one of its components). Check to ensure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.I also can't uninstall Ad-aware either, I get an error "Could not open INSTALL.LOG file" even though the install.log file is in the same directory as the UNWISE.exe
I began to wonder if it's a problem with whatever program these two pieces of software use as their installer. Since they both use unwise.exe Why do they even call it unwise? They act like it's a bad idea to uninstall sh*tty software. Anyway, that's another matter...
And, when trying to install the updated Divx Player from www.divx.com (before the new divx 5.01 came out) I could not run the updater. I was told it could be a problem with long file names, so I downloaded the update (which had a very long file name) and renamed it to a very short name (update.exe) then I ran it, and it worked.
All of this leads me to believe I am having some problem with 16-bit applications, long file names, or maybe a combination of both
Can anyone offer help on this matter for me? I'm really stumped...
Using:
Windows XP Pro
All windows updates installedPlease help

you can not use 16 bit on XP it will not work. just run a search for yahoo then delete it in search.

But that is just it. Yahoo Messenger is not a 16-bit application
Also, ad-aware is used by many many XP users I know, and they have never reported any uninstall problems that I have seen on their forums.
I am thinking maybe the installer software they use is 16-bit and this is causing the problem. But, I don't know much about that type of stuff, that is why I posted...
I hope someone will read this and give me a hand :(
