XP Home Edition always has Simple File-Sharing enabled. I think you have to startup in SafeMode to turn it off.

hi mikey,
Simple File Sharing (SFS) is always enabled and cannot be disabled in Windows XP Home Edition.

Appreciate the info... i might try a safe mode start up... but im guessing that might not work either... Can i up grade to Pro without completely fresh reinstalling? thanks again

Maybe I didn't convince you enough before !:)
SafeMode WILL give you the non-simple file-sharing.

hi svg,
i tried logging into safe mode and went to tools>folder options>view but did not see any option to stop sfs (unless i am looking for it in the wrong place). what i posted was given on the MS website. if u could give me more info abt stopping it when i log back in normal mode id appreciate it.

Hi qustions02,
Home Edition will not have a check-box in the FolderOptions, but Simple FileSharing should be disabled in SafeMode.
In SafeMode, you should be seeing the Sharing & Security tabs when you rightclick a file or folder for its properties (in Explorer).
HomeEdition SafeMode = non-simple filesharing.
HomeEdition NormalMode = simple filesharing.
I guess Microsoft wanted to make that as hard as possible, so that more people would switch to Pro (although MS claims it's because of less UserAccount possibilities on the HomeEdition - but that's just a bogus argument :) ).___________________________________________
