I'm not sure when my system started this, but I can't directly play mp3 links. The IE download popup comes up, immediately folloewd by another pop-up (which has what looks like a Mcafee "shield" symbol on it) saying "the file your are downloading cannot be opened by the default program. It is either corrupted or it has an incorrect file type." I can save the file to my hard drive and then play it. I've tried multiple sites and it always does this. I'm running a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and the pre-installed Mcafee Security Center that came on the Dell new. Windows Media Player 10 is my default player for Mp3s. I've tried going into my router setup, Mcafee setup, Media Player and IE options to "loosen" the system enough to try and isolate the culprit, but with no luck. Help!!

Have you tried disabling viusscan/securitycenter and playing a mp3 while its disabled? If it works then, mcafee is the problem. Also, what media player do you use? This could be a factor too.

Yep, already tried that. Router settings maybe?

It does sound like a firewall issue, but disabling either a hardware or software firewall could prove to be a very costly "solution." Viruses, trojans, and malware are proliferating at an exponential rate nowadays.

Look for another workaround. Experiment with other media players, as BMR777 suggests.

Turns out I can't seem to stream anything. MP3s, WMVs, all give the same results. This sucks.
