can't stop XP auto dialing

Whenever I'm not online the computer repeatedly dials my ISP.....I belive all my options are set to dialup only manually. Some small aps like weatherbug or internet ans. mach. require dialup but I want to surpress. How do I stop this monster.

You might have a spyware such as Gozilla on your system that constantly wants to "phone home". Download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com.

Could well be summat in ya system that should'nt be there, try adaware and see what it picks up. If nothing try and get hold of a decent firewall, such as nortons one. This monitors both incoming and outgoing traffic, allows you to see exactly what is trying to connect 'from you' or 'to you' and allows you to block programs from having internet access and also block remote systems from connecting to you.

If you have Outlook 2000, set your e-mail options to (a) do ot check for new mail every x minutes while connected, and (b) do not send immediately if connected. I don't know if other versions of Outlook take the "while connected" and "if connected" as imperatives to "get connected", but my vanilla Outlook 2000 on a newly installed XP certainly did.
