Cant start a game since upgrade

Im having trouble starting a game up since I just installed the latest drivers for my video card (ATI 9600 pro). I have just patched up IL2 forgotten battles to the latest version in a seperate file. The original version still starts but the patched version does'nt. I have tried starting up from the executable file in the patched version but have the same problem. Any suggestions on how to start a game up in any other way other than I've tried already.
