Cant sign into secure sites

I have this computer with IE 6 on it and for some reason it wont allow me to sign into any secure sites. I can visit any and all other websites but when I try to log into an https site it just quickly flashes to a page not found page. I tried installing IE 7 on the computer but when I do the computer cant connect to the internet at all. Does anyone know what the problem may be? Thanks.

Do you use a proxy server of some type or use a gateway or ICS or proxy.pac file? You need to use the latest updates if possible when using any https site. You should have IE7 I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.
