hi everyone
i have a very annoying problem, i cannot sign into msn messenger or windows messenger, it always comes up with the same message saying theres something wrong with the internet connection but there isnt. ive tries many times and it hasnt been able to sign in since last week. i have unistalled and reinstalled in, i dont have zone alarm. i have the newest msn messenger. this has happened in the past but i sign into windows messenger until msn starts working again, ive always been able to sign back in the next day to msn. i can access my hotmail account. ive changed my password and checked the .NET service status and it is good. But i still cannot sign in! My sister cant either. i think that windows and msn messenger are linked that i cant sign in as it comes up with the same message.

help is very much appreciated!!!
Thankyou
Jess xx

I might be confused, but "windows messenger" is a service that allows computers on the same network to communicate with each other. MSN is basically an internet "chat" program.

So if you are able to log on to what you call "Windows messenger", I think you are using MSN. I may be wrong since I don't use MSN.

Hi Jess,

Have you made any changes to your firewall (if you have one) I use Sygate and if I have "stealth mode browsing" anabled, I am unable to log in MSN. Was having the same problem as you until I realized that I had made changes to my settings with my firewall. Good luck

First of all, you should uninstall 'windows messenger'. This app has some appalling serurity holes and also is no longer supported by microsoft. use msn messenger.

Try clicking start, then run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click ok.

if ya use a firewall (like zonealarm, norton internet security), it's possible that messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the internet, especially since you upgraded. you may need to read messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall if this is the case.
