can't setup dial up connection

Hi Here is my problem:-
I am trying to establish a dialup connection. I am not new to the task. Earlier on my computer got its connectivity through an ethernet hub connected to another computer providing the residential gateway ( Broadband).
Now when I am not a part of the earlier network, and I want to set up a dial up connection, the 'new connection wizard won't let me! The option to choose ' connect using a dialup modem' is already inactive and greyed out..
I have disabled and subsequently trashed my LAN connection to give the dialup a free run ( maybe not required :-) ) but of no avail.
