Hewlett Packard 1.3 gig processor

128 meg RAM

40 gig hard drive

Came with Windows XP and is brand new

I spent several hours today trying to get my new machine on the existing cable connection which comes off of a hub where my wife's Mac G-3 is the server for a home network. I had an older 'puter hooked up running Windows 95 and the cable connection worked fine. In the new Windows XP I can't get it to work. The connection pinged ok but the ip address keeps changing to all zeros, sometimes right before my eyes when I get in there to try and find out why it won't work. What gives?
