I reinstalled XP last night. Some of the things were still on there after I reinstalled it. I don't know how to erase everything, or I would have. Today I can't send any e-mail using Outlook Express on the smtp server. I know there is nothing wrong with the server because I can send outgoing mail on my other computer. What happens is I compose an e-mail and I send it, and it appears that it has been sent out but the sender never receives the e-mail. I don't know what to do about this. Can somebody please help me? I'm desperate.

DOnt you have to hit send/recieve after hitting send when you are done typing your email. Thats the way i do it when it happens as yor describe.

Well the things go to my Sent Items folder as if they are sent, but I know they aren't really sent. I set everything up right I think, because I set it up the same way on Windows 98 and that one works correctly.

There are two places you need to check. One is in Outlookexpress under tools/acctounts/mail/properties, make sure all you settings are correct. Under my network places, choose properties of your connection and make sure all your settings under TCP/IP are also set and correct. Is this a modem or LAN connection? If it is a LAN or cable modem, etc. connection also try going to start/run/CMD: type ipconfig/all
ipconfig/release
ipconfig/renew
Good luck

I have just tried those things. I am on a dial-up connection. I tried CME right now and it said, "The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation" after I tried the ipconfig commands. Have you ever heard of a problem like mine before? Sending e-mail worked yesterday. Then after I reinstalled XP, I am unable to send anything, but I can still receive.

G'day Lisa, your post prompted me to wonder why i have not had any emails lately and i found that my OE options/send outgoing mail was set to html, so i would assume no one at the other end could read them
thanks
regards

Try sending an email to yourself. If no go, remove completely all the connection info and then reinstall it. If still bad, contact your ISP to report your problem.

have you looked in the OUTBOX folder? Is it empty? If you go to Tools/Options, go to the Send tab and make sure "send messages immediately" is checked.
