Can't see downloaded pictures

I have Windows XP home edition and use AOL for my ISP. When I download any picture from the Internet it will download fine, but you can't see the picture, it just comes up blank. Even if I copy and paste there is no picture there. It doesn't matter what file format it is. I downloaded the same pictures at work put them on a cd and put them on my home computer and I could see them just fine. When I do download pics at home I change the pic format to bitmap (AOL does ART). Any ideas?
Start saving files as .jpg you may see a diference.
