Hi, I am using XP Home and my problem is I can't edit any web page created by my old Chinese win98 with either GB or Big5 (Chinese) code in XP's (English version) notepad or Wordpad. I have already installed and set the correct region setting in XP. I can see the web page in chinese in my IE, type chinese in Notepad or Wordpad, and even copy and paste chinese from web page to notepad (it's ok when I open the file in IE,which it display the chinese fonts correctly, and then copy and paste it to notepad). However when I try to open and edit the htm file directly with notepad, it doesn't display the correct font. I have set the Font setting to Big5 or GB in Notepad or Wordpad, but it doesn't help. It seems to me that Notepad can display and save in ANSI and Unicode ONLY! And it cannot display any text or htm files with Big5 or GB code, though it has that option in the font setting. Same thing happen when I try to open the file in Dreamweaver mx and other application. I can only SEE Chinese character when I created the file in XP, which I think it is saved in unicode format, but I cannot see chinese with the files I created in chinese win98 which are saved in Big5 or GB. IE is the only application that can display the Big5 and GB code correcly, but I hated to open IE all the time and do copy and paste. Am I wrong? Can somebody please help me? |
