Hi, for some reason I can't get to Google at all. I can get to Yahoo but anything I type into the Search engine comes up "Cannot Find Server" Or "Page Cannot Be Displayed". These messages come up whenever I try to get to Google through my bookmarked link or typing in the address (www.google.com) - I even tried to get to another search engine, altavista, by using the address www.altavista.com but was brought to www.www.altavista.com (note the 2 "www"s ) . I have no problem getting to any other sites- just search engines or doing searches. Bizarre!! I have Windows XP - not sure if Internet Explorer version 6.0. Anyone heard of this type of thing?? I tried a virus scan already and that doesn't seem to be the problem. It's been like this a few days. Thanks for any help.. Rich-

It almost sounds like your security settings have been changed or your browser may have been Hijacked. Don't really know. Have you tried doing a system restore? If you can't do that then go to add/remove programs and see if you have some programs listed there that you didn't install, in particular IE tool bars or search engines. Look for anything suspicious and remove it. If that don't do it then try and do a repair install of Internet explorer through add/remove programs and go into windows components, and then untick IE. That will remove it. Then reboot and then go back to the same place and Put a tick back beside it and that should reinstall it. Good Luck.

Download and run Adaware, if you haven't already.

I found a bogus host file full of google and yahoo entries in C:\Windows\help that was stopping me from using search engines. Try doing a search on your entire PC for "host".
