can't search in win xp

CPU/Ram: p4 3.0 2*256 MB 400 MHz d

I can't search in win xp! when I do start a search either from right cklicking on a folder in explorer or from the start menu the only thing that happens is a error appearing with a yellow triangel with a black cross. under is a ok button. no search results at all. is there any solution except re-installing xp?

YES THER IS!!! Insert ur xp cd-rom and there should be a repair xp option...run it and u should not lose any files.
