Cant run Max Payne video game in Windows XP

Specs: Windows XP
When i try to start Max Payne the computer tells
me that i need a direct x 8 compatible display
adapter,how can i download it.Please help.

You don't download it; the message means you don't have a directx 8 compatible graphics card (or chipset), the proper drivers ain't installed for your card/chipset, or Max Payne isn't playing well with Vista.

For the first, give us your system specs or exact model number of your computer.

For the second, same applies.

with my intel xtreme graphics 2 i can run max payne 1&2 fine. Try to install direct 9c.

If latest drivers don't help, likely graphics card doesn't support directx 8 and above. No need to download directx 9c as windows xp has that version when os was installed. Test directx components, click on start button, select run, type DxDiag. This bring up the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Select display tab. See if all item under the "directx features heading" are all enabled. Click on "Test Direct3D" button. Test starts from Direct 3D 7 interface right up to Direct 3D 9 interface. Sounds like 8 would fail. And of course 9 won't pass as well.

i put max panye in and it says the version of this file is not campatible with the version u are running u need x 86 32bit or 64 64bit vesion and the contact software publisher but before the thing it said check ur computars system information what do i do
