I have had good results using this way or Safe Mode, different to Last Known Good Configuration in Safe Mode.

System Restore is accessed the following way:

1. It's a good practice to shut down all other applications before using System Restore, as it requires a full-system reboot to complete the installation. Connecting to the internet is not required, however. So shut all applications. Then click "Start."

2. Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Then the program will load.
Here's a screen shot of the program-entry screen: http://www.techbuilder.org/recipes/60402485

Or,

If System Restore doesn't work in Normal Mode, it might work in Safe Mode.
Toggle F8 or Press Ctrl ( depends on your comp ) during bootup ( just before, verifying DMI pool, message comes on )
Select Safe Mode.

norman51,

Prior to booting to safe mode to try johnw's suggestion, please do this first:

1. Minimize everything on the desktop.

2. Right-click My Computer icon, select Properties.

3. Click on the System Restore tab.

4. Tell us whether there is a checkmark placed in the Turn off SR for all drive and whether drive c partition monitoring is turned off.

Restore data? I guess you may use data recovery software. Try EASEUS DataRecoveryWizard, EasyRecovery or Getdataback.

This means that your System Restore is not disabled. Now, go to Start / Run. Copy the following command line exactly as specified into the Run window...

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Then hit enter key. Does this open the SR Utility?

I've noticed your comment in the other thread. Based on that info there is nothing you can do if the restore point you seek is not available to you for restore operation. In the future please refrain from posting multi threads covering the same issue.

Get "Deep Freeze". No matter what chaos your kids cause on the machine, everything resets to how it was when you enabled it after a restart.
