I was trying to resize the 40 Gig partition I have windows XP on so that i can get rid of the old (problematic) 10GiG drive that has the boot loader and win98 install.
I still have 10 gigs free on that xp drive, the plan was to simply create a 2 or 3 gig partition "before" the xp partition so that it would get the C:\ i woudlnt have to deal with drive letters changing for all my XP programs. Simply fixboot, and copy ntldr and ntdetect.com and run bootcfg /rebuild and the new partition would work like a charm.
The problem is that instead of showing the partitions as "editable", partition magic 7 AND 8 say the xp partition is "bad" and wont allow me to resize it - leaving me with no options.
What do you think i should try next?
The xp disk is on an onboard ata100 controller that was detected and runs fine if that makes a difference.

Are the cluster sizes the same for each partition? That's the only thing I can think of that would keep partition magic from working it's magic. Also. You can use the disk management utility in XP to resize partitions. To get there, you right click "My Computer" then choose "manage" then "disk management". From there you can do what you like with these partitions.
Summary: Addendum: XP has a "slightly flakey" reputation with XP; System Commander is apparently better in this respect. Also it's wise to backup all critical files - off the drive - before starting to resize/...
Summary: The first thing you want to do is make sure PM is installed on the XP partition so you can run it from there. Then delete the 98 partition which will erase its data, and use the resize partition wizar...
