Comment:
I have some files on my D: (cd burning drive) that cannot be renamed or deleted. When I try to rename or delete I get the message "Cannot rename(or delete)file name. Files on this CD are read only." I tried to change the file to from read only to archive I get "An error occured applying attributes to the file name. Access is denied." These are files that I have downloaded from the web. Thanks.

how did you burn the files to the CD, and is it a CD-R or CD-RW disc?

filenames or attributes on a cd rom (compact disc - read only memory) cannot be altered
Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

if it is a multisession cd made with nero, you can alter the filenames and attributes. it just reburns what it needs to, making the old file obsolete and not actually showing up on the disc.
what did you make the cd in bimmer?

Windows burning does not support multisessions, ie once the data is on the cd nothing can be changed. if you want to be able to change the data you will need to make the cd with a program like Nero.
