I think I changed some kind file assoisation with my CDROM/audio cd file type. When I put an audio CD into my drive I can explore the folder and see the tracks but if I try and play the CD I get this error:

"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. create an association in the folder options control panel"

can anyone tell me what I need to do, I know I can work with associations in regedit. I just dont know what I need to tell my CD player to do.

File associations can be restored by choosing one of the following methods:
-----
Windows Media Player
-----
1. Open Program > Go to Tools and click Options

2. Click on the "File Types" tab

3. If all the file extentions already have a check mark beside them then uncheck all of them then click Apply then OK

4. If not, click on the "Select All" button

5. Click Apply then OK

6. If you don't see immediate changes in performance, restart WMP /or/ reboot your computer.
------
WinAmp
------
1. Open Program > Go to Options and click on Preferences

2. Click on "File Types"

3. Click the "All" button and put a checkmark beside "Restore file Associations at WinAmp Start"

4. Then click Close.

5. If you don't see immediate changes in performance, restart WinAmp /or/ reboot your computer.

I'm afraid thats not the problem.

The Audio CD, I dont even know how to explain it. The more I work to fix it the more strange problems pop up.

I really have lost the will to even care about whats wrong anymore. I cant find even the hint of a virus and I've dug myself into a hole, system restore doesn't help... I'm just going to backup and reformat.

thanks anyways
