ok, just recently i cannot play any wmv or avi in windows media player. I have more than one player and the files work fine in the others, but every time i try to run them in the windows one i just get an illegal operation. I've tried reinstalling about 3 times and it hasnt done anything to fix it, i just cant figure this out..... any help is appreciated, thanks

Barky: a few suggestions;

1. verify you have the latest version of DirectX from:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx?url=/windows/directx/downloads/default.htm

2. run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool;
click Start, Run, type: dxdiag
and run the tests.

3. update the drivers for your sound card and your video card.

4. run a full virus scan.

let us know what worked for you...
