Comment:

Recently I haven't been able to play most of the .mpeg .mpg .mp2 and almost all of .avi files, the reason blurry and unclear picture and my guess is it has definitely got to something with the codecs. Real player can play most of them, but then real player i guess loads alot of adware crap and so i had to uninstall it coz it was crashing and cpu was hitting 100%. so can u please suggest me a codec pack that would do the job,, i once had ACE Mega Codec pack and worked fine,, but now even that doesnt help and i cant play certain files, and also when wmp cant play a file it freezes, thanks in advance ciao

"Preview" of the .AVI files may be the cause of explorer.exe high cpu use .
Start -> Run -> type in: Regedit & press Enter .

Find the >

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler\

directory and delete the "DEFAULT" key

Ace DivX Player is the best Windows Media Player replacement program, it plays movie and music in formats including DivX, AVI, MPEG, WMV, ASF, MP3, CD and Video-CD.
What Ace DivX Player offers you is what a handy movie and music player really should does: Powerful Playlist, Freely resize movie window and full-screen playback with on
screen controls.

Ace DivX Player doesnīt contact the Internet each time you load and play a file. Itīs safe!

Ultra Player

A week ago a tudogger asked if I could find a free multi-media player, other than Real Player. So I looked and found a good one. This is not a stripped player, second to a Pro version that costs, but the whole gizmo, with a wide choice of skins, and super quality sound and video. Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000. 2MB. Free.

Windows Media Player: WMP mini FAQ

Please note that these are all unsupported hacks I figured out in my spare personal time. I am speaking only on my own behalf in all cases. My contact info is here.
There is a general focus herein on WM Player 9 Series, since that's the newest and IMHO best player. However, this FAQ also covers Windows Media Player 7 (WMP7), Windows Media Player 6 (WMP6), and Media Player for XP (MPXP). In general, if it says "WMP7", it will usually be applicable to MPXP and WM Player 9 Series too.
