having trouble with my local lan
2 PCs running xp pro
connected to a linksys router
no firewalls enabled and i ran the network wizard (checked the firewall setting after) i have no problem accessing the internet but i can't see or ping any other computers on my LAN. i can ping the router from both PCs. Net use gives me the 'error 6118' file sharing is on in both computers and i am a user with admin rights in both as well. i can ping and connect to other PCs outside of my LAN. i am running Panda anti virus on one and Mcafee on the other. i have shut them both off, but still can't ping. both computers are set to DHCP

1) This behavior can occur if you enable the ICF that will closes the ports for file sharing by default. To open these ports, right-click the network connection that is firewall protected>
Properties>Advanced>Settings>Service Tab>Add, Enter 127.0.0.1) for the required Internet Protocol (IP) number. Enter UDP ports from 135 through 139, and TCP ports from 135 through 139 one by one (the external and internal port numbers should be identical).2) This may occur if the workgroup name and the domain name are the different.
3) No master browser. Starting Computer Browser Service on one of w2k/xp computers should fix the problem
