Can't ping my own IP!

I have windows XP home edition but i can't ping my own IP address at the command prompt, it just gives me "destination unreachable"
This is with zonealarm OFF to (i have no router or anything else)and computer is not connected to another computer so techincally its "disconnected" but i should be able to ping myself right?
I have tried uninstalling all the protocols down to tcp/ip then shutting down and pulling the card out (its ISA only have one slot) booting it back up without it then putting it back in but it still doesn't ping
