Hi,
In a workgroup of 25 computers all the machines are running on windows xp sp2. Some of the machines can not be ping / accessed by hostname. They can be accessed only by their IP address. No firewall is turned on these machines, neither windows built-in nor the third party. AVG antivirus software (freeware) is installed on these machines.
NetBIOS is also installed by default and in the WINS tab NetBIOS Setting is default. Every machine has the same windows xp settings.

Apologies for the wrong subject line. It should be: can't ping by hostname only by IP Address000000

Hi sushil,
thanks for the suggestion but it should work without LMHOST and it is working on other machines. Any suggestion about reinstalling or applying the service pack again?
Regards

If you can PING a IP address, but not a domain name, then you have DNS issues.
Check with your ISP, make sure your settings for DNS are correct.
