Comment:

I'm trying to re-partition the C: drive and re-install windows XP. When I start the computer with the install disk in the CD-Drive, and try to delete the C:\ Partition, it says Setup files are on that drive and it can't be deleted/partitioned right now.

**WITHOUT Using Partition Magic**
Is there any other way to re-partition (Or at least Format) The C: Drive? The drive is currently NTFS and I would prefer it to stay that way, which is why I haven't used FDisk.

The last few times I partitioned and re-installed no problem, but I apparently don't remember how I did it :)

NTFS has nothing to do with your partitioning. You can delete all partitions, re-create partitions and still format partition to anyway you wanted it. Fat, Fat32 or NTFS. Just create the partitions first, then boot it up from your cd and it will ask what format you want for these partitions.

#1 - win9x boot disk - will not format into NTFS, and will not recognize NTFS Partitions, therefor, I cannot delete the NTFS Partition, because it doesn't recognize it.

#2 - See above. Problem is, as I stated, I CAN'T delete the partition, it won't LET me.

OK, went and tried FDisk again. It showed one partition (C Drive) at a size of 30G
No other drives available.

I have a C:, D:, and E: on a 80G MAxtor
a F:, G:, and H: on a 60G maxtor.

Just out of curiosity, I formatted the C:\drive, then rebooted and windows, and it had erased the F: Drive. No other drives were shown in FDisk

No, No, dude. You use the Fdisk.exe to delete the non-dos partition from your c:. I think NTFS show as non-dos in fdisk. Don't delete your d:, e: and f: drives, they don't come from the same hd. Or if you can find a gdisk.exe , you can delete whatever you have on c: easy.
Just type gdisk 1 /del /all. Once you delete the partition, you can create it again. Even if you create a FAt32/Fat partition, with XP install, you still can convert FAT/FAt32 to NTFS, but not from NTFS back to FAT/FAT32. Use the command convert /? will give you more info.

Little mistake in the last post.
gdisk.exe don't know.
Are you sure that you can delete an ntfs partition with win 98 fdisk.

Is there a big problem with using partition magic?? the program is designed to be used with both XP Pro and Home , its simple to use and works brilliantly , giving one many options , if theres no good reason to not use it , a program well worth trying :)

Good Luck
