Can't open/run anything, Can't restore...

March 11, 2011 at 18:00:47
Specs: Windows XP, ?
I ran AVG today and it didn't find anything, however I must have gotten some kind of virus or something today because now every time I click something to try and run it (like spybot) it brings up the "open with" menu. I restarted and tried to go into safe mode but after selecting "safe mode" then my OS (windows xp) it showed a bunch of drivers and stuff and never booted. I restart in regular mode and try to restore (start | programs | accessories...) but again I get he "open with" menu. I can bring up the task manager but have no idea what I"m looking for. I have no idea how firefox even started but I'm glad it did, now I need to fix it! I'm afraid if I close it, it won't open again! Please help!

how do I save it to my hard drive? I clicked on it and it went to a page with a bunch of HKEY stuff. if I right click on it I only get the option to 'save link' or 'save link as'?

DreamerSS, I don't use Firefox but try right clicking and choose Save link as and save it to your Desktop. Make sure it has a reg file extension then try right clicking it and choose Merge.

Well... I can't run IE (it says it can't find my broad band connection) and I don't have those problems with firefox. :)

I tried what you said and it saves as a text document.

Wait! the second time I tried it it shows the image of a text document but now has "exefix.reg" under it... is that what I'm looking for?
