Hi,

I am not able to open excel files in windows xp, office 2003. When i try, it shows a grey screen which displays nothing. I even uninstalled my antivirus.

It shows that file is corrupt in excel 2003 and works fine in excel 2007. Also, the file extension is xls

It shouldn't be your anti-virus.
Try un-installing Excel 2003, It may have had a problem when installing.
