Can't open Programs.

Microsoft Windows xp home edition
January 8, 2010 at 19:30:32
Specs: Windows XP
This computer must have some type of malware. Pop-ups, etc... I downloaded some spyware scanners that I know work, but when I try to open them to run a scan nothing happens. I can open all other .exe files but not those. Security Center was disabled, I fixed it. Some how this thing is keeping me from using the services- processes that I need I think. I tried also to install Windows Defender for Xp. It was almost finished and said It could not because I do not have permissions to run services, although I am logged on with Administrator rights. Pleas help

jam203, see if you can access one of the online scans at either Housecall or Panda.
Housecall -
Panda -
Sometimes those are allowed when others are blocked.
If it'll allow you to do it, download a scan such as Malware Bytes or Superantispyware and scan. Be sure to update either before running and disable 'restore' so the nasty doesn't get put back. Re-enable once the machine's clean.
