Have you run any malware/spyware cleaners?

Run CCleaner to help speed things up.

Are you sure there isn't just a big lag in opening any of the programs you don't think are working?

Jennifer SUMN, i tryed to restore registory as i said above, and i didnt try what the guy told me because the guy in the last response, that is also the one who told me to try to restore registory, told me it wouldnt work. so i have tryed everything mentioned.

and i forgot to mention that by deleting office, now all my programs, when i press start they are all .ink, i cannot open them, the icon is like a white page with a blue window with like all sorts of colored dots in it, the type of icon you get when you delete the program but the icon is still there, but cant open it of course.
please help, i am really confused and dont know what to try

i deleted Office by going into add/remove program then deleted it...
i already ran the registry module thing on CCleaner, but it didnt change a thing, in fact, i just noticed that i cannot open anything anymore because there isnt the "open" part when i right click an icon.

What version of Windows are you running?

Evidently you are using WinXP. Perform a system restore to a time prior to this problem.

Go to the Start button> help and support> tools> system restore.

Choose the option to restore and then look for a restore date prior to your issues.

If you choose one and after the restore is performed it doesn't solve your problems undo the restore before choosing a different date.

Keep in mind that any programs installed after the restore date will no longer function.

Personal files in My Documents will be retained.

fred450, Go back to that link and on line 12 (left column)right click on "EXE (lnk and regfile) Fix for Windows XP" coose "save target as" and save it to your desktop. Then double click it to merge it into the registry.

If you can't run the file do the following:

Press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager. Once there, click File, then hold down the CTRL key and click New Task (Run). This will open a Command Prompt window. Enter REGEDIT.exe and press Enter. Once regedit is open click File>Import and locate that reg file fix, hilite it and click Open.

To correct that problem right click your Desktop, choose Properties, under the Settings tab change the "Color Quality" from 32 bit to 16 bit, click Apply/OK. Now go back and under the Settings tab change it back from 16 bit to 32 bit. Doing this rebuilds the iconcache.db file.

Do you use Ad-aware with Ad-watch?

This "other session" you are talking about. Is it a limited user account without admin privileges? If so then you may not be able to fix it without upgrading the account to Admin user group. I may be wrong about this but it's worth a try.

fredd450, I'm just about out of ideas but try this. Go to the link below, click on "Security" (left side of page), click on "Disable/Enable Registry Editing Tools" (right column) and download the "regtools.vbs" file. Instructions for running it are on the page.

Then try to import that reg file fix (exe & lnk) again.

i am thinking of just save most of my more important files on my computer on cd's and just reformating the whole computer.
if i there isnt really any other way...

fredd450, I was afraid of that and I wish I could have come up with a solution but I'm totally out of ideas. Maybe someone will chime in with a solution.
