Well, I don't understand why you get this message error your file can't be opened in DOS mode ????
DOS mode is the heart of windows itself, windows created by Microsoft is there in fact to read all DOS mode in your computer through a "windows" easy to use for you.
Are you sure you created this file with a program ? or is this file a programmation you try to create yourself ?
If yes, this mean your file got a problem to execute, you have to rebuilt it completly.......

On Windows XP it isn't as there is no DOS in XP - only a DOS emulator which is accessable via the command prompt. Are you trying to open this file from a command prompt?

If it is trying to open the file in DOS mode then there is somethig wrong with the file. Windows is interprating it as an executable file.

An HTML file is basically a text file with HTML tags in it. The fist tag should be <HTML> and the last one should be </HTML> like so.

<html>

<head>

Header information her

</head>

<body>

The main body goes here

</body>

</html>

Open the file in notepad. If you dont see these tags then its not an HTML file.

The file should be saved with the .HTML extension so that when you open it it will open in the default HTML viewer which is usually Internet Explorer or whatever your default browser is. HTML files can also be opened in MS Word.

If you are trying to open the HTML file for editing in DOS, use Edit.

But like Stuart said an HTML file will not run (display) in DOS. You need a program like Internet Explorer to display an HTML file.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

I'm with Stu. Open the file in Notepad.
