move any files that are at the root of each drive [make sure you have view hidden files checked] to a temp folder and they see it this behaviour continues

why in the world would you think moving any files [didn't say folders] off the root of d: and e: to a temp folder would be impossible?

The usual reason this happens is you copied something incorrectly and put a autostart.inf file or similar at the root of the drive.

If moving the files off the root of the drive doesn't address the issue you just move them back.

Does this make sense to you?

BhnM, Give FixDrive zip a try at the link below. It very well may fix your problem.

•Download and save it to Desktop
•Unzip the file and extract the contents (FixDrive.exe and readme.txt) to a folder
•Double click FixDrive.exe to run it
•Select the drive-letter from the list that's exhibiting the problem
•Click Fix

"Open With" dialog appears when double clicking on a mapped network drive in My Computer
