I'm working on a friend's computer and I can't give any details on the machine because I can't get passed the login screen. I click on his name the box proceeds to login and it either gets to the desktop with no icons and sits there for a minute or 2 and then logs me out or it just instantly logs me out. Either instance it sits at the login screen after the logout. I tried going in through safe mode, but received the same results. I've also tried the recovery console, and no results. The one thing he told me he did was he received an email from Earthlink (email didn't look out of the ordinary) and downloaded a new piece of software. He also received the software in the mail.
It starts up in safe mode, but I still have the same log in issues.
